Throw-in Durak practice

Check same-suit defence, trump defence, matching ranks and the attack limit.

Four fixed examples to check your understanding. There is no score, timer, streak or progress storage. You can read any explanation directly; completing an exercise is not a recommendation to gamble.

1. Throw-in Durak, hearts trump: an attacker plays 9♣. Which non-trump card can cover it?

Read the explanation without answering

A higher card of the same suit covers a non-trump attack. The club jack works; an off-suit spade does not, and the club eight is lower. A heart trump could also cover the club attack, but none is offered in this question.

2. Hearts are trump and the attack is 8♥. Which cover is valid?

Read the explanation without answering

A trump attack requires a higher trump. The heart nine covers the heart eight. A non-trump ace cannot cover it, and the heart seven is too low.

3. The table shows an attacking 8♣ covered by J♣. Which card has an eligible rank for a throw-in, assuming room remains?

Read the explanation without answering

An added attack must match a rank already on the table, including covering cards. The jack of diamonds matches the covering jack. Matching the club suit alone is not enough.

4. A defender began this bout with two cards. Two attacks are already on the table. May a third matching-rank attack be added?

Read the explanation without answering

In this stated throw-in variant, the limit is the smaller of six attacks and the defender’s hand size at the start of the bout. Two starting cards permit at most two attacks; matching ranks do not override that limit.
