A practical EU bonus glossary
Bonus vocabulary mixes accounting, marketing and legal concepts. A shared English word may be used differently across contracts or translations. Treat definitions as a reading aid and preserve the exact contractual wording.

- Deposit means money transferred into the account.
- Wagering base is the amount multiplied by the wagering factor.
- Licensee is the legal entity holding permission; brand is the trading name users recognise.
Accounting terms
Deposit means money transferred into the account. Bonus credit is promotional value whose use and withdrawal treatment depend on conditions. Cash balance normally describes funds designated as cash in the account, but the actual withdrawal position still needs checking. Conversion means a change from restricted to withdrawable status under the stated rules. Turnover or wagering refers to accumulated stakes, not automatically money lost.
Conditions and timing
Wagering base is the amount multiplied by the wagering factor. Contribution is the share of an eligible stake credited to progress where partial contribution is allowed. Maximum stake is a limit on an individual wager, distinct from a deposit limit. Claim deadline, play deadline and conversion deadline can be separate. A cashout cap may mean a bonus conversion ceiling rather than a payment-processing limit.
Regulation and remedies
Licensee is the legal entity holding permission; brand is the trading name users recognise. Product scope describes the activity allowed. Territory identifies where permission applies. A complaint can report conduct, while a dispute often concerns a contested individual entitlement. ADR means alternative dispute resolution, but the applicable body and powers vary. Self-exclusion restricts access within a defined scope and is not merely an unsubscribe button.
A detail worth checking
Several apparently familiar words deserve special caution. Net loss requires a defined period and list of included credits or transactions. Cashback requires a definition of both the calculation and the form of payment. First customer can refer to a company relationship rather than a new brand. Eligible means satisfying the stated conditions, not simply being able to click a button. Guaranteed may describe allocation of credit without guaranteeing a gambling return. Whenever a definition changes the amount at stake or the ability to leave the account, request the complete wording rather than relying on shorthand.
Worked example · hypothetical
Translate a sentence
In a hypothetical clause, twenty times bonus with fifty-percent contribution means the bonus is the base and half of each eligible stake advances the counter, where such terms are lawful. It says nothing by itself about maximum stake, expiry or conversion caps. Each missing condition needs a separate definition.
- Identify the relevant account event and preserve its original wording.
- Separate known facts from assumptions before drawing a conclusion.
- Use the applicable official source or complaint route when a material question remains.
Common questions
Does turnover mean deposits?
No. Stakes can reuse returns, so turnover and deposits measure different things.
Are these definitions legal advice?
No. They clarify common usage; the applicable law and full contract control a particular case.
